Episode 1: Asteroïd Blues [Top]

A dark memory of a distant past. As the church bells ring a lone rose drops to ground; drowning in a puddle of rain. Bullets are flying everywhere, and as the blood runs down a strange man’s face, a sudden explosion ends the dream. On board of the spaceship Bebop, Spike Spiegel practises his Kung–fu in a dark room. His partner Jet Black calls him for dinner, but unfortunately for Spike, ther was no meat in their Chinjyao Rosu. Their success as bounty hunters has been limited, and Spike’s uncontrolled behaviour only caused them more financial peril. Their new target, Asimov Solensan, a gang leader in the northern part of the asteroid Tijuana has been causing more trouble than usual and is now worth 2,500,000 Woolongs. The Bebop heads through the inter–planetary gateway and takes orbit around the asteroid.

Down on Tijuana, a seemingly quiet and uninteresting bar is about to become a crime scene, as Asimov and his fiance Katerina appear. Under the cover of looking for tomato juice for Katerina’s Bloody Mary, Asimov and the bartender go to the back for a dirty deal. Bloody Eye, a dangerous mood altering drug that is administered through the retinas is the source of Asimov’s new business venture. To encourage the sale of his drug, Asimov sprays the red liquid on his eyes; and after a short groan of pain, turns into a red–eyed demon. However, the rival gangs of Tijuana have discovered his whereabouts, and the bar is quickly surrounded by henchmen. A bullet passes through the head of the bartender, and the bloody eyed demon displays the potential of his drug. No matter how close the bullets come, Asimov evades them with lightning speed, and in turn breaking the necks of those who assaulted him. In the meantime, in a tent somewhere on the same asteroid, Spike impatiently smokes a peace–pipe with Chief Bill. According to his predictions, Spike would find the Red–eyed coyote in the north, however, the presence of a woman would cause certain death. Spike shrugs off the worries of the shaman, “I am already dead, and that was also caused by a woman.”

The once peaceful bar was now a pool of beer mixed with blood as Jet stands over the bloody remains of the gangmembers. He quickly hides as more thugs arrive, but he easily surprises them and coerces them into explaining what happened. Looking to still his hunger, and that of his jet–cruiser, Swordfish II, Spike lands at one of the gas stations. A sweating Asimov passes him by, and a chance encounter with the beautiful Katerina sets Spike’s plan in motion. Charmed by his sillyness, Katerina betrays her motives quite easily, and Spike introduces himself as a lone cowboy, looking for his prey. However, Asimov grabs Spike’s throat from behind and almost snaps his neck. But Katerina’s words saved Spike’s life; who now fell to the floor.

After the coyote left, Spike is found by his partner, who wants to return to the Bebop and give up on this meaningless hunt. But Spike was not done, and reveals a bottle of Bloody Eye that he stole from Asimov while he was being strangled. A new ploy is devised, and under the shadow of a large Sombero, Spike awaits Asimov at the next bar. As Asimov attempts to showcase his wares, Spike holds up the flask with the crimson liquid, “Are you looking for this?” A fight ensues between the powerful gang leader and the lightning fast Spike. After kicking Asimov around thoroughly, the police arrives and rounds of machine gun shots now tear up the terrace. Asimov quickly retreats to his et–cruiser, but Katerina is shot and half of her supply of Bloody Eye falls on the ground. Spike follows the two in his own jet; shooting down police interceptors in order to claim his prize.

As their Jet reaches the outer athmosphere, Katerina realises that they went too far, and Asimov could no longer be saved. A shot echoes through the silence of space, and the window glass is now stained with the blood of her fiance. Spike stares into her sad eyes, “Adios..”, was the last thing she said before her Jet was blown to pieces by police interceptors. Surrounded by glass and flasks of Bloody Eye, her body starts a lonely descent back to the Asteroid on which she was doomed to die.

Episode 2: Stray Dog Strut [Top]

A mysterious suitcase wriggles as its owner flushes his bandages down a toilet. Three men in white suits surround the toilet door, and yell for Abdul Hakim to come out. The door is opened by a large impressive man, who easily renders his assailants unconscious with a few well timed blows. The Bebop passes through the inter–planetary gateway heading towards Mars while Spike watches the lastest news on bounty hunter prey on the TV show “Big Shot!” Today’s target is Abdul Hakim, a dangerous criminal who reportedly kidnapped a precious animal from a research lab. This incident increased his bounty to a whopping 8,000,000 Woolongs, which caught the attention of the sleepy Spike. The broadcast is cut off by an incoming transmission from the plastic surgeon who operated on Hakim. He offers Spike information and pictures for a measily 280 Woolongs, as long as Spike promises to break a few of Hakim’s ribs in the Doctor’s name as revenge for the way he hit the poor man with his suitcase.

With the new information, Spike and Jet head down to Mars to find Hakim and the abducted lab animal. Abdul secretly arranged for the sale of his suitcase and settles down at a local bar. While shoving a cockroach–Lao Chu down an unsuspecting patron’s throat, a local lad steals the Hakim’s suitcase. The Bebop lands on Mars, and Spike takes out his Swordfish II, in search of his Hakim. While Spike browses a local weapons store, and plays with a pair of “Way of the Dragon” nunchakus, he’s told about an unsavory pet shop downtown. As if it was fated, the young lad who stole the suitcase headed for the same pet store. Mistaking the lad for Hakim, Spike readily puts a gun to his head, and tells the lady of the pet store to open the suitcase. To everyone’s surprise, the prize is nothing more than a common sheepdog, a Welsh Corgi, only worth 200 Woolongs.

Spike says goodbye to the poor lad and the dog, but doesn’t realise that Hakim passed him by on the street. With a gun pointed at the young thief, Hakim demands the return of the dog. But the dog will not give up without a fight! A gunshot is fired and the dog is now running for his freedom. A chase through the busy streets begins, as Hakim follows the dog, Spike follows Hakim, and the owners of the dog (who were previously beaten up), are trailing behind. Eventually, a showdown between Spike and Hakim begins on the middle of a bridge. But the dog knows better than to stay and watch, and he quickly jumps down to a passing freighter boat. Of course, Spike and Hakim follow, but the dog jumps back up and hits Spike in the face, sending them both down into the water, and Hakim into a crab infested container.

Back on the Bebop, Jet takes care of the lone dog and names him Ein. After lecturing being lectured by Spike and bitten by Ein, Spike goes back outside with Ein in order to lure Hakim. In the meantime, the original owners of Ein patrol the streets in their strange vehicle. They use a special sonar device to emit a high pitched sound that only dogs can hear, and will attract them. As Hakim tries his luck with a local fortuneteller who uses a small bird as oracle, Spike loses control of Ein and another pursuit begins. As Ein chases the vehicle, Spike chases Ein, and Hakim, who had just stolen a brand new car; runs over Spike and takes back Ein.

However, Spike will not give up that easily and chases the car with his Swordfish II; attempting to run it off the road. Inside the car, Ein jumps on the controls and opens the car doors; jumping outside. But Ein falls down the high road and Spike is forced to rescue him. “Stupid mut! This is why I hate animals!” The Swordfish loops back and Ein is caught mid–air. Hakim loses control of his car, and together with the scientists who were after Ein, he crashes down from the road, right onto the parking lot of the Police.

The Amigos of Big Shot announce the capture of Abdul Hakim on Spike’s TV, and reveal that Ein is actually a data dog with untold intelligence and worth. However, Spike is not interested in keeping the pooch around his ship, but stir frying him would be no option either...

Episode 3: Honkey Tonk Women [Top]

A beautiful voloptuous woman confidently walks through a shady store on Mars. As she smokes one of the patron’s cigars, a mob of armed men appeared outside the store. After grabbing an automatic rifle out of her grocery bag and firing a full round of bullets on the unsuspecting thug, the store is destroyed by countless enemy bullets. As the patron hides behind the counter, the young woman is already captured.

She is brought to a casino ship in orbit of Mars, where the owner compared the young lady to Poker Alice: the legendary poker player of the late 19th century. She is left with the choice of working for the casino or being turned over to the police. As if it where fated, the Bebop docks at the Casino, and Spike and Jet look for certain fortune with Lady Luck. While Jet plays the slots, Spike ends up at the young woman’s Black Jack table. The lady was ordered to let a player, who looks a lot like Spike, win a lot at the poker table. He has to lose in the last round, and after that, he will give the woman a last chip as ̴Dealer Chip”. This chip would be so valuable that the woman’s enormous debt would be like small change. However, Spike has no idea what is going on as he is being confused for someone else. So when the last round is called, and Spike loses all his chips, he keeps the last one and leaves the table. As he walks around, he bumps into the real poker player with the valuable chip, and during their encounter, their chips are mixed up. Of course the young lady follows him around, begging him to give her the chip. But Spike causes a ruckus by mentioning that there was cheating, and gleefully swallows his last chip. Of course, security arrives, but Spike quickly takes care of them with his Kung Fu moves. In the meantime, the young woman calls her mecha, which ispiloted automatically to her location. As she escapes from the casino by blowing out the windows, Spike and Jet find their escape by hanging on to her mech as it flies out.

Aboard the Casino ship, the boss shoots the poor fellow who failed his mission and lost the valuable chip. On board the Bebop, Spike and Jet lock the poor girl in the bathroom as they question her about the casino. Spike literally coughs up the chip, and while they leave the girl to sit in the bathroom, Jet goes to analyse the chip in the computer. In the meantime, Spike turns on “Big Shot!” to see the latest bounty hunter news. The young woman is identified as Faye Valentine, and her reward is now an amazing 6,000,000 Woolongs. Jet finds a microchip hidden inside the playing chip, and Faye secretly contacts her boss Goton to tell him where she is. Spike and Jet come back to question her, and tell her that they will bring her to the police to collect the bounty. Of course, Faye is not pleased with that, and tries to escuse herself by appealing to their humanity, and calls herself a “Roma”, or Gypsy. Of course, the bounty of 6,000,000 Woolongs is too important to Spike and Jet, and Faye is once again left in her toilet of solitude.

Aside from fetching a pretty penny for Faye, Jet figures he could get more for the chip, and the bargain with Goton begins. The chip was manufactured by S.I.T., and contains the Crypt breaker decoding program, which, if used carefully, could bring infinite wealth. 30,000,000 Woolongs wouldn’t be much of a price for this golden key, and an exchange is arranged. Meanwhile, Faye skillfully escapes her bounds, ties Ein to a ladder, and after raiding the fridge, flies her momocarrier out of the Bebop’s airlock.

Spike goes out in a spacesuit to make the transfer on the deck of the casino ship. But Goton has no intention to give up his money, and his henchman tries to shoot Spike after he throws the chip. But Spike is not that easily fooled and takes both the chip and the trunk. However, Faye would not leave without thinking of herself first, and using a grappler, she steals the money. Goton fires at her mecha and launches a whole batch of missiles. However, she easily evades them and sends them back to the casino ship where they blow up Goton’s brige; with him in it. “Not too bad, little girl”, Spike says as her monocarrier takes off towards Mars. And as all chips belong in a casino, the Crypt Breaker chip will disappear among the millions of regular chips, never to be found again, and never to be used for evil.

Episode 4: Gateway Shuffle [Top]

In the silent space around Ganymede, Faye’s monocarrier Redtail floats around while the fuel meter blinks red. After being passed by, by a local shit, she spots a strange damaged ship also in orbit. While she investigates, Spike and Jet head for a restaurant ship nnear the Ganymede gate to taste the local delicacies, and to find their newest target; a man called Morgan. But they are not the only strange ducks in this pond, as an odd group of enviromentalists starts a ruckus at Morgan’s table. Hiding behind Searat–masks, they pump the poor patron full of hot lead, and take out many innocent bystanders as well. Spike and Jet quickly hide under the table, and Jet recognizes their leader, who has a bounty of 25,000,000 Woolongs on her head. Not knowing that Spike and jet survived, the terrorists take no haste in leaving, but Spike’s gun was now firmly planted against the head of their leader. Forced to leave behind their mother and leader, the Space Warriors retreat.

Faye finds the dying pilot of the assualted spaceship, and before his death, he told Faye to give a certain item to the ISSP. Back at the Bebop, Jet explains to Spike how the Space Warriors turned from enviromentalists to terrorists when Twinkle Maria Murdock took over as leader. But as they check the police site to see about her bounty, it appears to have been dropped. In the meantime Faye opens the package that she got from the dying pilot, and the remaining Space Warriors blackmail the Ganymede government. While Jet tries to figure out what happened to the bounty, the Bebop receives the emergency transmision of the stranded Faye. She is brought to the Bebop and is detained with a nice pair of handcuffs. Jet contacts his old friend Bob of the Ganymede Police, and promises him a not–so–comfortable future if he were to withhold information on Maria Murdock. Spike finds the flask that Faye was supposed to bring to the ISSP, and plays with it, to Maria’s aggrivation. Bob explains to Jet that the Space Warriors are threatening the Ganymede population with a dangerous virus known as “Monkey Business”. This virus eliminates the DNA difference between men and apes, and will turn anyone who comes into contact with it back into a primitive lifeform. The impatient Spike shoots the flask, but instead of destroying it, the actual vial of the dangerous virus is received. But since the Ganymede government is under pressure, the Bebop crew will get nothing for the return of Maria Murdock, and hence they return her to the Space Warriors. Though Spike looks defeated, there is no way he will really give up this fight.

As soon as Maria returns, she pressures the Ganymede government to totally ban the hunt and consumption of Searats. However, the Government is weak, and the Space Warriors continue their plan to turn Ganymede into a jungle with only apes. They send a dummy warship into the Ganymede solarsystem, which is chased by ISSP raiders. As Jet relaxes in the Bebop, he receives an emergency transmission from Bob, telling him to tune into a special frequency on which Maria Murdock is transmitting. She has launched her probe containing the virus onto Ganymede. Spike locates her real ship in a gate heading towards Ganymede.

Now that the bounty is restored, Spike gets into his Swordfish II and enters the gate. In the meantime, Faye has already escaped her bonds and is preparing her Redtail for departure. A wild chase begins inside the gate, and Spike evades the small interceptors in order to log on to the big missle. But before he could hit it, it splits into three parts, and one of the passes Spike. Spike turns around but he will not make it in time. Of course now that there is money to be earned, Faye appears and offers her services for 80% of the bounty. “Is this some kind of joke?!“ Spike yells. “Okay then, good luck and Goodbye!” They quickly settle on a 60/40 split. Faye loads her giant shotgun, but as she fires, the last missile breaks up and splits into hundreds of small missiles. Luckily, the Ganymede government is closing the gate, however, Faye and Spike must hurry in order to get out in time! A race for their life begins, and they evade hundreds of missiles while going for the gate. Just as they exit the gate, it closes. The missiles appear in space, but because they are in another phase, they cannot collide with matter in this phase. As the Space Warriors ship stops to turn, the vial of the virus that Spike put into Maria’s pocket when she left floats away against the wall of the ship, and breaks. Aboard the Bebop, Jet nurses a migraine headache, while Faye, who now decided to be the newest crewmember of the Bebop, takes a shower. The last thing heard was a gunshot as Spike goes to tell Faye the truth..

Episode 5: Ballad of Fallen Angels [Top]

The Red Dragons and the White Tigers: though essentially enemies, their feud had been ended with a piece of paper. Mao Yenrai, the leader of the Red Dragons, signs their treaty with his own blood, signifying an everlasting promise. However, as he watches his former rival fly away, he breaks out in sweat as an explosion lights up the air. A crow shrieks, and the hall of the Red Dragons’ base is filled with bloody corpses as a mysterious man walks past. And as the man smiles, the end of Mao Yenrai is as swift as the movement of a blade.

On board the Bebop, Spike anxiously plays with a deck of cards. The dissappearance of Mao Yenrai had raised his bounty to 28,000,000 Woolongs, but the mission creates a tension between Spike and Jet. Of course, nobody wants the opinion of poor Faye, who just happened to walk in and decided to stick her nose into it. Spike takes off in the Swordfish II, and the frustrated Jet takes it out on Faye; who is more interested in Mao’s bounty. Though initially unsure, her mind is made up when she picks up a lone card from the floor: the Ace of Spades.

Faye arrives in great style at the Mars Opera building, where she was going to find her big reward. After charming the valet, Faye is brought to a private skybox in the opera house. Jet searches the ISSP database for information on Mao while Ein looks up in worry. As the opera continues, Faye approaches Mao’s suite. However, she is held up by two men, one of which puts a gun against her back. In the meantime, in downtown Mars, two boys are caught stealing adult magazines by the unforgiving shopkeeper. However, she lets go of the two brats as Spike appears before her. As they sit down, Spike tries to convince Ani that he’s not a zombie, because as far as she knows, Spike was killed three years ago. Faye bites her lip as one of the guards tells her to sit down. As she looks to her right, she sees the bloody corpse of Mao sitting next to her. The mysterious man appears once again, his name: Vicious.

After handing Spike his old gun and some ammo, Ani drinks another glass of brandy for her old friend Mao. He returns to the Bebop to fully arm himself while Jet lectures him for going on such a dangerous mission. The comsystem is switched on, and the captured Faye begs Spike to come and save her. Though Jet does not approve, Spike takes the bait and is lead to an inauspicious church. The dimly lit church is the perfect place for a dark soul such as Vicious. “Even for his creator, the beast is unthankful”, Spike says to Vicious, who murdered his tutor Mao in cold blood. Faye is lead out, and a gun to her head is supposed to force Spike’s surrender. However, Spike’s bullet makes short work of the cowardly henchman, and an all–out attack on Spike begins. After shooting two henchmen and blowing up the third, Spike runs up the stairs and is hit by a bullet in his side just before he can shoot the fourth. Jet accidently cuts off a branch of one of his Bonsai trees while Faye calls in for help. After shooting the last of the henchmen, the injured Spike is attacked by Vicious and his large katana. After a short clash, Spike drops to the floor and Vicious’s blade is against his chest; while Spike’s gun is against Vicious’. “We are equal”, Vicious says, “We are of the same blood. Blood that desires blood; the beast inside is thirsting for it.” Spike smiled, “I poured that blood long ago.” “Then why are you still alive!” Vicious screamed, his sword cut Spike, and Spike’s gun pierced Vicious. He grabbed Spike by the face and throws him out of the painted glass window.

A long descent began, but before he would go down, Spike throws a grenade back into the church. As the church explodes, the memories of a blood–stained past come flashing by. A single rose drops to the ground; Spike is seen heading into a church. The fire–fight begins, and the injured spike throws a grenade into a mass of enemies. Vicious and Spike fight back to back as brothers, but then a woman appears. As the injured Spike stumbles across the street, the woman takes him in and hums while he sleeps. When Spike woke up, he was no longer in his dream of the past, and now, the song was hummed by Faye. Spike beckons Faye to come closer and wispers in her ear softly: “Moron..” A loud punch is heard, and as cards float across the room, one of the lands on Spike’s face, the Ace of Spades.
