CD 1

Assault on Mako Reactor No. 1 (Top)

Enemies: MP, Mono Drive, 1st Ray, Guard Hound, Guard Scorpion (boss)

The mission gets underway when you see members of AVALANCHE taking down a couple of Shinra guards. A hired mercenary for AVALANCHE then makes his way off the train in style. Check the two guards laid on the floor to acquire 2 potions. Proceed to the end of the platform, but before you have chance to exit the station, 2 MPs attack you. Nothing special; each enemy will fall at a single attack from the Mercenary.

Head to the next area, where you will find two locked gates. Simply speak to Biggs and Jessie for these gates to be unlocked. You will also have chance to name the young mercenary at this point of the game (he will now be referred to as his custom name, as will every character you have the option to name) Pick up the Phoenix down in the control room on the right, and then head for the lift.

Follow Jessie out of the elevator and into the reactor. She will give you a lecture on as to how you correctly use ladders. Once finished, grab the potion and proceed down the ladders and deeper into the core of the Reactor.

When you have finished your journey down the series of ladders, you will encounter a save point. To save your game, go up to the save point until you hear a noise, access the menu and select save. Once done, heal Cloud and Barrett to their maximum health, and proceed into the next area.

Here, you will find a Restore Materia, which is extremely vital. However, you are unable to equip the Restore Materia as of yet. A cut scene is then triggered where you shall see Barrett forcing Cloud to plant the bomb and after doing so, Cloud begins to hear a mysterious voice, but the cut scene is interrupted with the Shirna alarm sounding off, which summons your first boss.

Name: Guard Scorpion
Level: 12
HP: 800
MP: 0
Exp: 100
Gil: 100
AP: 10
Strong VS: Gravity
Weak VS: Lightning, slow, stop.

Have Cloud continuously attack with Bolt, while Barrett concentrates on his physical attacks. If either of your characters starts to run low on HP, have Barrett chuck a potion on the character in question. If The Guard Scorpion raises it’s tail, refrain from attacking in any way, as it will result in him unleashing his most powerful attack; Tail Laser. Once he returns to his normal stance, continue your attack as before.

Once the Guard Scorpion is defeated, you have 10 minutes to escape the Mako Reactor before the bomb explodes. Equip Barrett with the assault gun that you acquired from the spoils with the Guard Scorpion and sure you save your game.

The time you have to escape is plenty, so start to make your way back. Once you have climbed several sets of the ladders, you will find Jessie stuck. Help Jessie release her foot, and follow her to the exit.

Just like before, when you reach the locked security gates, speak with Jessie and Biggs in order for them to be unlocked. You will now have took your leave of the reactor, and have the satisfaction of seeing Mako Reactor No. 1 going up with a big bang. Congratulations on your first successful mission with AVALANCHE!

AVALANCHE Headquarters (Top)

Your Journey Back

After your first successful mission with AVALANCHE, Barrett orders the team to split up and head to the Sector 8 station, and from there to AVALANCHE headquarters. Simply follow Barrett to get to the next area.

Here you will see a flower girl knocked down on the floor due to the commotion created by the Mako Reactors explosion. She questions Cloud on as to what had just happened. You may answer how you wish, but this seemingly normal flower girl is much more important to the game then you may think. After you have finished your conversation with her, leave in the direction that she did and in the next area be sure to grab another potion.

Once you go so far, you will encounter a bunch of unfriendly MP’s. These guys pose no threat, but you still have the option to either fight or run. Fighting is most likely the most logical choice, as the MP’s are hardly a challenge but will give you experience that you could do with at this stage of the game. Keep in mind that if you take too long in making your decision, the MP’s will attack you. Whichever option you choose, it will eventually end in Cloud jumping on the passing train, where the other members of AVALANCHE are located.

Barrett isn’t too happy with Cloud’s dramatic entrance, but why would you care? You will see a short cut scene where Jessie will clean the muck off Cloud’s face. After this, you will have to follow the team into the passengers cars. When here, talk to every member of AVALANCHE, and when talking to Jessie, she will give you the option of showing you how Midgar operates, so why not listen up?

You will soon arrive at the sector 7 slums. To get back to headquarters, follow the members of AVALANCHE. You also have chance to speak to a boy concerning the structure of the pillars. This is not vital, but it can be interesting.

7th Heaven

The team will lead you to the local bar called 7th Heaven (this is in fact AVALANCHE’s headquarters) Barrett will clear everyone out of the bar so the team can speak to one another privately.

Enter 7th Heaven and here you will find a childhood friend of Cloud’s: Tifa. She is in fact the bartender of 7th Heaven, and also a major member of AVALANCHE. If you chose the option that allowed you to purchase a flower from the flower girl, you will be able to give it to either Tifa or Marlene (Barrett’s daughter) You may want to talk to the members of AVALANCHE to acquire information, but either way you will eventually have to walk towards the door. After doing this, Barrett will barge in and call a meeting in the secret section of 7th Heaven. You may want to share a drink with Tifa before doing so, but when ready, head towards the pinball machine to attend the meeting.

You will soon find out that AVALANCHE’s recent actions have made Shinra’s news. AVALANCHE have now been classed as terrorists, but this doesn’t alter Barrett’s motives. When you speak to Barrett, he will lose his temper with Cloud due to his past connections with Shinra. Tifa breaks this up, but Cloud isn’t about to take this abuse and walks towards the exit.

Before you reach the exit of 7th Heaven, Tifa will come rushing towards Cloud to prevent him from leaving. She reminds Cloud that he once made a promise to her that if he were to achieve his dream of becoming a member of SOLDIER first class, that he would always protect Tifa if she were to be in danger. Tifa is now using this to force Cloud to stay, but why is she so intent on having Cloud stay?

Barrett will then give Cloud his payment of 1500 gil for helping the team destroy Mako Reactor No. 1, and after some persuasion agrees to pay Cloud an extra 2000 gil if he helps AVALANCHE on their next mission, which is the destruction of Mako Reactor No. 5. After your discussion, the team takes a well–earned rest.

Once you awaken, Barrett will ask how to use Materia correctly. If you already know the Materia system, say no. If you don’t, explain it to him. Tifa then tells Cloud to visit the weapons store in the Sector 7 Slums. Looks like this is your next destination!

Sector 7 Slums

Just as Tifa said, head to the weapons store. Here you should buy 3 iron bangles and sell all your bronze bangles. There are also a few chests to be opened, an All Materia and a save point on the top floor for you to save your game. If you’re still unsure on the battle system of Final Fantasy VII, go to the beginner’s hall where you can learn a few basic steps.

Now head to the item store. Purchase yourself a few potions and a fire Materia. One of your part members should be equipped with a restore Mataria coupled with the All Materia you just found, as that will enable you to use the very useful Cure–All spell.

Now that you have finished your shopping, feel free to explore the Sector 7 Slums to your hearts desire, but when done, head towards the station for your next mission with AVALANCHE!

Raid on Mako Reactor No. 5 (Top)

Enemies: Grashtrike, Special Combadant, Rocket Launcher, Blugu, Smogger, Proto Machinegun, Blood Taste, Air Buster (boss)

When you arrive at the station, head straight onto the train. Once you talk to Tifa within the train, the security alarm will go off. Nothing to get excited about, but if you don’t move from car to car within the set time limit, you shall be caught. However, you do have chance to acquire items from passengers from merely talking to them, but this does waste valuable time.

When you have made it to the last car, you will have to talk to Tifa in order to jump off the speeding train and into some tunnels, thus avoiding capture. Carry on heading north in these tunnels, and eventually you shall come to some sensors that block your way from advancing. If you look to your left, you shall see there’s a hatch, which will get you to your next destination. Once you have climbed through this hatch, you have two options on where to go. Regardless of which you choose, they will both lead to the same place.

Things will now start to look similar to Mako Reactor No. 1. Use the nearby slide to make your way down, and then continue to the reactor core just as you did in Mako Reactor No. 1. As you approach the reactor, Cloud has a flashback where Tifa is mourning for her father and swearing that she will have revenge over who had killed him, which is Sephiroth. After Cloud recovers, he will set the bomb but there is no time limit this time. When done, head back the exact same way you had when planting the bomb in Mako Reactor No. 1.

When you have left the elevator, you are faced with the task of pressing 6 buttons at the same time. This must be done in order for the next gate to be unlocked. Simply count to 3 in your head, and then tap X for this to succeed. Once the gate has been unlocked, save your game and put your characters back to full health. It may also help if you build up Cloud’s and Barrett’s limit break.

Proceed into the next area, where you will be ambushed by Shinra soldiers and where President Shinra appears to give you a little speech. Once he has finished rambling on, he will escape in an helicopter and introduce you into his latest invention: Air Buster.

Name: Air Buster
Level: 15
HP: 1200
MP: 0
Exp: 180
Gil: 150
AP: 16
Strong VS: Earth, Gravity.
Weak VS: Lightning, Slow.

This boss isn’t too much to worry about. Cloud’s limit break will take a significant proportion out of its health, as will Barrett’s. Excluding Limit breaks, the best way to attack the Air Buster is naturally by Cloud’s Bolt attack. Tifa and Barrett should attack normally, healing when necessary. Keep in mind that it will hurt Air Buster more if you hit it from the back, as this battle is pre-emptive. After defeating Air Buster, you will be awarded with a Titan Bangle. However, after Air Buster is defeated, he shall self–destruct, sending Cloud falling to the Slums below...

The Flower Girl (Top)

Enemies: Whole Eater, Hedgehog Pie, Vice, Hell House

The Church

Cloud will hear the mysterious voice that has been haunting him throughout his missions with AVALANCHE, which will help him regain consciousness. When he awakens, he will find himself in a flowerbed located within a church, with the flower girl that you met earlier looking at him with intrigue. This young woman’s name is Aerith (Aeris, but I will refer to her as Aerith) and she asks Cloud to be her bodyguard in exchange for a date. Cloud doesn’t get much of a choice, but why not?

Just as you have agreed on this, Reno, a prime member of an elite group within Shinra named The Turks, enters the church with the intension of kidnapping Aerith, but you, as her bodyguard, are not going to allow that now, are you?

Exit through the back of the church and start to clime the stairs. Aerith will follow Cloud, but will soon be brought down the stairs due to Shinra’s machine gun fire, which will then move to intercept. You’re given three options; to have Aerith “fight”, “run” or “hold on a minute”, choose “hold on a minute”. Now, run up the rest of the stairs where you will find several barrels, three of which will stop the Shinra soldiers in their tracks. Firstly, push the bottom left barrel off, then the top left, then the top right.

Aerith will now have been rescued and will make her way up to your location. Once she arrives, escape through the hole in the roof. She will now explain to you that Shinra have been trying to kidnap her for quite some time, and will then point out the way to her house. Looks like that’s your next destination.

Aerith’s House

You only have to talk a short distance in order to get yourself to the Sector 5 Slums, which is where Aerith’s house is located. Before you get there, head east in the slums to get to a house where a sleeping more is located. Look in his draw, where 5 gil can be found. Don’t take this money, as it will benefit you later if you don’t.

Now, go to Aerith’s house, which is north in the Sector 5 Slums. Before you enter, pick up the Ether and Cover Materia in their garden, and then save your game. After that, make your way into her house.

You will meet Aerith’s stepmother, who will secretly ask you to leave the house in the middle of the night, without Aerith. Proceed upstairs and get some rest until the time to go comes. While sleeping, Cloud will be visited by the mysterious voice that has been haunting him throughout the game, and you will see a little something from Cloud’s past...

Cloud will then wake up, and it is now time to leave. But keep in mind that Aerith is not yet asleep, so walk quietly. Grab the care package next to the door and then proceed downstairs. Once outside, head towards Sector 6. However, once you reach Sector 6, you will find Aerith waiting for you there. Looks like she’s coming with you!

Sector 6

Sector 6 is in ruins, so just head forwards until you reach what appears to be an old, abandoned playground. Here, Aerith will tell Cloud a little story about when she was a child, and the two of you will take a rest. After a moment, the Sector 7 gates will open with a Chocobo carriage leading it’s way out. But who is that on the back of it? Is it Tifa? What is she doing here? I guess you’ll have to follow the carriage into Wall Market to find out...

Wall Market (Top)

Enemies: Scotch

Cloud’s feminine Side

Let the search for Tifa begin! You will soon find out that Tifa is in Don Corneo’s mansion, which can be found at the northern end of Wall Market, so you better go check it out. Head to the Don’s mansion, and you will acquire the information that Tifa is indeed there, but only good–looking females are able to enter. This strikes a problem; as Cloud won’t allow Aerith do go in on her own. How can this possibly be solved? Maybe if Cloud dresses up as a woman? It must be worth a shot, right? Although Cloud is very reluctant to do this, he sees that it is the only choice he has, but you will have to find him a nice dress and wig for him to look somewhat like a woman.

Head to the dress shop and talk to the woman at the counter. You will soon find out that dresses can no longer be made, as the owner has become a drunk, drinking his sorrows away at the local bar. Maybe if you make him feel better, he’ll help you make a dress? It’s most definitely worth a try. Head to the local pub and talk to the dress shop owner. He will be more then happy to make you a dress after you have talked to him, and will give you and option of the type you would like. Choose “soft” and “shimmers”. Once the dress is ready, you’ll have to find yourself a wig. The shop owner thinks you’ll find one at the gym, but what would a wig be doing at a gym?

Head to the gym and talk to Big Bro, the gym’s owner. It looks like he’s into cross–dressing, and agrees to give Cloud the wig if he beats one of the students at the gym in a squat contest. To perform a successful squat, press square, X and circle in that order. However, don’t do it too fast, and wait for the first movement to be completed before you do the next. This task can be easily done, but if you happen to lose, you get a different wig anyway, so no worries.

Now that you have acquired these two items, you can go to the dress shop, get dressed and enter the Don’s mansion. However, you can get more items to add to Cloud’s feminine look. It isn’t essential, but you can think of it as a side quest, so the next section will be only for those who would like to totally complete Wall Market:

Wall market Side Quest

Time for your very first side quest! Head to the local bar and talk to the guy who is doing “The Pee Pee Dance”, and then talk to the woman who is using the bathroom. It looks like she’s been in the bathroom so long due to her not feeling so well. She acquires some medicine, and asks you to get it. Now, head to the restaurant and buy any meal, it doesn’t matter which. For doing so, you will attain a pharmacy coupon.

Now that you have the pharmacy coupon, go over to the pharmacy. You will have a choice of three medicines: “Disinfectant”, “Deodorant” and “Digestive”. Choose “Digestive” and give it to the lady within the bathroom. For doing this task, she will reward you with the “Sexy Cologne”.

Now head to the Materia shop and speak the man located within it. He asks you to sleep at the local inn and get him something from the vending machine, and in return he will give you something you need. A pretty good deal, I’d say. Go to the inn and pay the 10 gil to spend the night there. In the middle of the night, Cloud will wake up. Go to the vending machine and buy the most expensive item available. In the morning, return to the Materia shop and give the owner the item you bought. He will . then give you the Diamond Tiara. Time for the last part of the side quest!

Head to the Honey Bee Inn, but you can’t enter without a member’s card. Go outside the entrance of the Honey Bee Inn and you will see a man walking in circles. Talk to him to get a member’s card.

Enter the Honey Bee Inn, and go into one of the doors on your left (doesn’t matter which) Regardless of which room you choose, you will walk away with something you need (Bikini Briefs if you choose the group room; Lingerie if you choose the &$*% room) Before you leave this bizarre place, visit the dressing room and they’ll be happy to apply some make–up to Cloud’s face.

Now that you have absolutely everything you can get for Cloud, go to the dress shop and change Cloud into everything you gained through this little side quest. Cloud is now a lady, and is fully prepared to visit the Don’s mansion!

Don Corneo’s mansion

Now that you have made it into the Don’s mansion, start your search for Tifa. Head upstairs and to the left. Proceed down the stairs and you will find Tifa, alone. She tells you that she came here due to Don’s men hanging around Seventh Heaven, and is trying to speak with Don Corneo regarding it. After she has finished her tale, one of the Don’s men will shout the three of you up to meet the Don. Head to his chambers, and it is here whom he will decide to be his lady for the night. If you did the “Wall Market Side Quest”, the Don will inevitably choose Cloud.

If you didn’t do the side quest, you will be in a room with the Don’s men, whom think Cloud is a pretty girl. You will eventually have to fight them, and after doing so, go into the Don’s chamber and rescue Tifa/Aerith. This will also happen if Cloud was the one chosen.

The Don will tell you that Heidegger hired him in order to investigate Barrett and locate AVALANCHE’s headquarters. President Shinra plans on destroying the whole of Sector 7 in order to take out AVALANCHE. You most definitely can’t allow this to happen, so you better head back to Sector 7 ASAP! However, Don Corneo will open a trap, which will send you into the sewers, making your journey back to Sector 7 longer...

Shinra Strikes Back (Top)

Enemies: Enemies: Sahagin, Ceasar, Ghost, Deenglow, Chipshay, Eligor, 1st Ray, Aero Combatant, Aps (boss), Reno (boss)

The Sewers

Due to the Don’s secret trap door, the team will find themselves in some sewers. Fully equip your team with weapons, Materia etc, as a boss fight will occur as soon as you talk to Aerith and Tifa...

Name: Aps
Level: 18
HP: 1800
MP: 0
Exp: 240
Gil: 0
AP: 22 Strong VS: None
Weak VS: All status effects

An easy boss fight. Aps does an attack called “Sewer Tsunami”, which hurts both you and him. If it comes from behind him, it will hurt him more. If it comes from behind you, it will hurt you more. Concentrate on using fire upon him; it will hurt him considerably. It is a better idea to have Aerith use the fire attack, as she is the best magic user of the team. Have Cloud and Tifa concentrate on physical attacks, performing Limit Breaks when necessary.

Now that Aps it defeated, you better get to Sector 7 as soon as you can, as you don’t want Shinra to get there before you, do you? The way out of here is simple, but make sure you pick up all the useful items within the sewers.

The Train Graveyard

This place is quite the maze. Basically, you can go up and over the trains, or through them. Follow this rule: If you can’t go over them, go through them. If you can’t go through them, go over them.

However, there is a section in the graveyard where you are unable to go over or through the train. In this case, simply hop into the train and ram into the train in front of you, creating a clear path for Cloud and the party to proceed.

The Train Graveyard is the perfect opportunity for the Steal Materia, which you should of obtained in the sewers, to come in. In the graveyard, you will encounter an enemy called Eligor. You can steal are very powerful staff for Aerith called the Striking Staff from this creature, which will become extremely useful.

Once you have finished in the Train Graveyard, head straight for the pillar in Sector 7.

Sector 7 Pillar

As you arrive at the pillar, you will clearly see that the fighting is well underway. Aerith will depart to make sure that Marlene is safe while Cloud and Tifa make their way up the pillar to aid Barrett in the struggle. Save your game, and begin making your way to the top, talking to the wounded members of AVALCNHE as you move.

Once you reach the top of the pillar, you will find Barrett fighting the Shinra forces on his own. You will have time to re–equip you party, so equip Barrett with any new weapons and armour and transfer Aerith’s Materia to him.

Reno will now make his entrance, and with a touch of a button activates the bomb, which will destroy the Sector 7 Pillar. You will try to disarm it, but Reno has something else in mind...

Name: Reno
Level: Unknown
HP: Unknown
MP: Unknown
Exp: Unknown
Gil: Unknown
AP: Unknown
Strong VS: Unknown
Weak VS: Unknown

Nothing special. Try to attack with you magic attacks, performing Limit Breaks when possible. Reno uses a move called Pyramid, which can become an annoyance. It paralyses the character in question, not allowing them to do anything within the battle. However, this can be broken by another of your party members physically attacking the character which has this move cast upon him/her. Reno has a fair amount of HP, but will flee from the battle once you have depleted his health by a significant amount.

Once you have defeated Reno, the team will attempt to defuse the bomb. However, this is all in vain as the bomb will inevitably explode. Tseng, the leader of the Turks, will taunt you from his helicopter, and will reveal to Cloud that he has captured Aerith, and will then fly off. All you are able to do right now is flee before the Pillar explodes. However, the other members of AVALANCHE and the inhabitants of Sector 7 are killed as a result of this atrocious act committed by Shinra...

AVALANCHE Reborn (Top)

After successfully escaping the explosion, the remaining members of AVALANCHE come to rest in the ruined playground, which Cloud and Aerith had previously visited in the game. Before the team begins to move on, Barrett expresses his anger against Shinra by continuously shooting at the ruined reactor. However, Barrett calms down a little when Tifa reassures him the Marlene is well and safe, but is still out–raged due to the members of AVALANCHE being killed.

Cloud tells the team that he wants to find out more about the Ancients, which triggers yet another encounter with the mysterious voice that has been haunting him all this time. When he gets back to normal, the team decides to go check at Aerith’s house in order to tell her adoptive mother the situation at hand, and to also check on Marlene, so head straight for her house. On your way there, make sure you pick up the Sense Materia.

Once you arrive at Aerith’s house, you will find out more about Aerith’s past and the Ancients. Once you have acquired the amount of information you need, head upstairs and get some rest. Once you awaken, save your game and head into the Sector 5 Slums.

Remember when I mentioned that you shouldn’t take the 5 gil from that boys draw, as it would benefit you later in the game? Well, this is when it comes in; go over to that house again and talk to what is now the awakened boy. For not taking his 5 gil, he will give you a Turbo Ether! Once you have done this, head straight for Wall Market.

Wall Market has changed since your last visit. The Materia shop is now selling Materia, the weapons shop owner now has more to offer, you now have a reputation and can now enter the Don’s mansion whenever you want.

Head north in Wall Market and you will come across a gang of boys claiming that they have found something cool. Follow them, and you will find your one–way ticket to Shinra HQ! However, before you proceed up this wire, head to the weapons store and buy some batteries; you will need them if you are to make it to Shinra HQ.

Now, begin to climb up the wire. Once you have got past the first step, you will find yourself in what appears to be somewhat like a maze. Throughout this maze, you will find several sockets. If you wish to make it to Shinra HQ, you’ll have to put a battery in each of these sockets in order to proceed to the next stage.

Put the first battery in the socket nearest to you. This will activate a propeller, but the propeller will begin to lose power after a short period of time. However, it will have done what is needed, as it creates a bridge to the next section, so proceed.
The next battery needs to be placed in the socket next to the barricade, which will transform the barricade into another bride. Once done, proceed to the next section. The next socket opens a chest, which contains an Ether. The last one isn’t needed, but you can do it if you want to. After you have entered all the batteries, its time to go rescue Aerith!
