Tips and Tricks

Prevent back attacks
To prevent back attacks, simply press L1 and R1 at the same time once your party has been back attacked in order for them to turn the right way around.

Lucky 7777
If one of your characters HP is of 7777, you will get a message stating “All Lucky 7’s!” The character in question will do 7777 amount of damage every time he or she strikes (although you have know control over him or her). However, after a battle where this trick has worked, the character in question’s HP will be reduced to 1, so make sure you heal him or her back to full health. A good way to do this is to use HP plus Materia to gain health and also to un’equip summon and magic Materia, as it will get you closer to the high HP level of 7777. This isn’t the easiest of tricks, but it most definitely is one of the most useful, especially earlier on in the game.

Early Limit Breaks
The level 2 and 3 limit breaks are accessible any time within the game, despite them being able to increase your characters strength substantially. If you were to unlock the 3rd level limit for each character (see limit break guide) early on in the game, it would make the earlier battles much easier. The best stage of the game to do this is just after you leave the Mythril Mines. Once you do leave the Mythril Mines, head to the forest where you encounter Yuffie (See Yuffie Sidequest) and battle away against the Cappawire’s (little green plants which appear in groups of two or five); I used the Matra magic enemy skill (see Enemy Skill List) to defeat each one in a single blow. After doing so several times, you will have soon acquired the character in questions 2nd and 3rd limit breaks, which will help you greatly at this stage of the game.

3 X Spell
To cast a spell 3 times on your opponent, equip someone with a Reflect Materia linked with an All Materia and have that character case reflect to have him or her cast it on your whole party. Next, cast an offensive spell on your party (make sure it’s linked to an All Materia) and it will hit the enemy 3 times. However, be warned, this has the same effect with defensive magic, so be sure to keep that in mind when using this trick.

Bonus potions
At the beginning of the Assault on Make Reactor .1 mission, have Cloud search the defeated Shinra soldiers to acquire 2 potions. Remember, potions are quite valuable at this stage of the game.

Knights of the round table x 12
To cast knights of the round 12 times, have one character link the KOTR Summon Materia to the Quadra Magic Materia. Have your two other characters equipped with a Mime Materia each, and have the first summon KOTR to have it cast 4 times. After doing so, have the remaining two characters mime the first character to hit for a total of 12 times.

Limit breaks re–used
To use your limit break as many times as you want without your gauge being full, simply Mime yourself with the Mime Materia. However, be warned that if you use an item or healing spell when the character in question is low on HP, he or she will mime that particular action, so make sure you have at least one of your three characters doing all the healing.

Final attack trick
If you link the Final Attack Materia with the Phoenix Summon Materia, once the character whom has this Materia combination is killed in battle, the character will Summon the Phoenix just before his or her death, causing damage to the enemy and also reviving any fallen allies to full health. Of course, you may also do this with powerful Summon or Magic Materia, like KOTR and Ultima, but the Phoenix is usually the best to do this trick with.
