Strategy Guide:
Mission 1: (Top)

As you drop from the parachute, take out the oncoming soldiers and make your way to a sign, which when shot will result in your attaining a bonus. As you approach the area with buildings, free the two hostages by simply shooting at them, and then walk towards them in order for each to give you a bonus. For yet another bonus, get the cat at the top of one of the buildings. As your keep progressing right, you will continuously encounter more soldiers and hostages; repeat the same process as done previously. Not soon after, you will encounter a truck and a helicopter, both of which sustain more damage than the average soldier. However, they are no problem to deal with, and if you want to ensure victory, simply chuck explosives at them. Continue moving to the right, repeating the process we have been doing previously, and ultimately, you will see two hostages under three towers. Free the two and one will give you a weapons upgrade to the missile. Suddenly, the three towers turn out to be mechanical weapons, and will soon begin rapidly shooting missiles at you. Keep shooting your new found weapon at them for an easy victory, and if you run out of missiles to shoot, finishing them off with your pistol shouldn’t be much of a problem. Once defeated, jump and shoot at the left door for a bonus, and begin shooting up at the middle of the two houses for a few bonus’s to drop down. Again, continue to move to the right and you will eventually come across two camels, one of which is an ordinary camel while the other is a Camel Slug, your first vehicle. Shoot down at the ordinary camel for a bonus and then hop on the Camel Slug. Blow up the truck in front of you with the weaponry of the Camel Slug, and after having done so, you will find a Metal Slug. Change vehicles and make your way to the right. You will be attacked by several helicopters, the first of which is red. Shoot down the red helicopter first for a bonus and then proceed to take out the rest. Next comes the level boss. Free the hostage before facing it.

Boss 1: (Top)

Once this boss raises itself above the ground, it will fire a blue flame, which will cover a large distance of the ground. Once this occurs, stand your distance and simply fire your weaponry at the boss. Once the lower part of this boss has been destroyed, three hostages shall be released. Free them and then continue your assault. Let loose everything you have got, including each of your explosives. Avoid the oncoming fire by jumping and crouching when needed, and this level boss should be finished off rather quickly, thus completing the first mission of Metal Slug X.

Mission 2: (Top)

As you drop to the ground from your parachute, move to the right and shoot at the sphinx for a bonus, then proceed to free the hostage next to the sphinx in order to attain the laser gun. Continue to the right, where you will find a few soldiers next to a barrel and three hostages. Take out the soldiers with your weapon and free the hostages with your explosives. Shoot the chest for a bonus and then move along to the right. You will find a sign with the writing “4m” just before the doorway, which when shot will result in a hostage dropping down. Move along where you will find several workers along with numerous bats, whom the workers seem to be rather intimidated by. You may kill them, but they are practically harmless. Eventually, you will encounter a new enemy: the mummies, whom will unleash an attack which will turn your character into a mummy themselves. When hit again, your character will be killed. However, if you stand your distance and simply shoot at these beasts, they will be taken out easily. Free the hostage, whom will drop when each of the mummies are destroyed, and continue right. Another hostage will appear in front of a door with the writing “temple” upon it; free him, and then destroy the door in order to continue. Repeat this process with the next you encounter, and as you proceed, there will be a locked door, which will be unlocked once you destroy each and every mummy along with the dog–mummies. Enter the door and you will find Rumi, who is a fellow mercenary. Catch her in order to get an item. Take out the zombies as you travel up the staircase, and once you see a corpse, slash it with your combat–knife for a bonus, but make your distance after doing so, as it will explode. Continue up the staircase and you will eventually get a weapon upgrade to the flame shot, after which you find an archaeologist with approaching mummies. Allow the mummies to reach him, thus turning him into a mummy himself, and once you destroy him, you will get a gem. When you have to jump to the other side (which will be after you travel up some more stairs), simply jump and a mummy will fall down on a rope, thus making it possible for you to get to the other side successfully. Continue right where you see a bonus. Try to take it before the boulder comes crashing down or you will be unable to do so after. The next hostage you find after this is actually set for a trap; as soon as you free him, jump out of the whole, as two zombies will appear from either side of you, thus making it impossible for you to avoid their attack. Destroy them and then shoot at the statue to your left to attain another bonus. As you progress up the stairs, you will eventually see a chest in the middle of a ditch with purple smoke coming out the left, middle and right part of it. This is a pattern; it will cover left and right twice, and then the middle. Jump into the middle and get the chest when it does the former, and jump back out before it does the latter. You will soon come across an eyeball on the in the wall, which when shot at numerous times will result in a bonus. Shoot the torch on the left to obtain some coins, and you will then find yourself near several chests. Collect them all and then get into the vehicle here, being the Slugnoid. Continue going up in the Slugnoid, and you will eventually be attacked by the level boss.

Boss 2: (Top)

The method in defeating this boss is fairly simple. Keep jumping with the Slugoid, and whilst in the air, shoot down with your weapons. Make sure to jump rapidly, or the boss will catch up with you and take your life. Once the Slugoid has sustained too much damage and is destroyed, continue the attack with your pistol and explosives. Along you way up this staircase, you will continuously come across the Heavy Machine Gun and Missile weapon upgrades, so make sure to put them to good use.
