Introduction:

One of today’s most talked about stars is BoA, the multi-talented Korean Superstar. Since her debut in August of the year 2000, BoA has scored hit after hit, and is now one of the most popular Asian superstars around.

BoA (full name: Kwon Boa), was born in Korea on November 5th 1986. She was discovered during a talent search in 1997 by production company SM Town. At that moment, the music industry was dominated by mainly young Japanese girls, and Korean artists had a tough time scoring hits outside their country. SM Town thus did a huge talent search amongst youngsters. Originally, BoA’s older brother was auditioning, but when he was asked if he had a younger sibling was when Boa first appeared. At this time, she was only 11 years old.

The SM Town talent scouts were so impressive with the young girl’s singing and dancing that they immediately offered her parents a contract to train the young girl. BoA’s parents were reluctant to let SM Town train her, because of her excellent grades in school, and they feared she would neglect her studies if she pursued a career as a singer. However, SM Town would not take no for an answer, and after a while her parents consented. Of course, BoA was way too young to start singing, and had to go through a lot of training.

For BoA to make it outside of Korea, she had to learn Japanese and English aside from taking singing and dancing classes. This proved to be no problem for her, and she picked up the new languages fairly easily. She spent many days every month practising her dance routines with famous Japanese dance instructors, and BoA continued to grow towards her debut.

At the age of 14, BoA launched her debut album ID; Peace B in 2000. The album did well in Korea just as SM Town expected, and two years later she would release her debut album in Japanese as well. BoA did even better in Japan, and she has always been at the top of the charts since.

Aside from singing, BoA does a lot of modeling for advertisments, and can be seen in numerous commercials. In 2004, Maybelline New York contracted BoA to be their new model for Korea, which ended up becoming a 5 Billion Dollar deal. BoA’s looks have at the end of many dicussions about possibile cosmetic surgeries. Her image is becoming more and more western, and although she has yet to break through in the United States, it will only be a matter of time before her first English album will arrive.

BoA’s new single, MerryChri was released on December 1st of this year, and went to the 4th place of the Singles charts in one week. Her 4th album, My Name has already sold over a million copies, and was released in August of this year.
