Millennial Fair – Özlem Tekin

 

Introduction:

Özlem Tekin is a famous Turkish performer and artist who continues to write and compose brilliant songs.

Özlem was born on November 18th 1971 in California USA. Her father, Prof.Dr. Talat Tekin is one the most famous Turkologists in the world, and he still teaches at Berekely University.

At one point, Özlem went back to Ankara (Turkey) to study at the Music Conservatory, where she learned how to play the piano and clarinet. Of course, she also learned how to sing in different ways.

She graduated from the Conservatory in 1992, and for two years she was part of a band called Lokomotif, which originated and performed in Instanbul, Turkey. Lokomotif also participated in the Eurovision Song Contest, but didn’t win.

When she started her solo career, Özlem taught herself how to play the accoustic guitar and mastered many different music styles, such as English Pop, Rock, Heavy Metal, Punk and traditional Turkish folk music.

Since then, Özlem has released four albums: Sırasıya Kimi Ne (1996), Öz (1998), Laubali (1999), and her latest album Tek Başıma. Her rich voice and great diversity make Özlem a pleasure to listen to, and her popularity continues to rise, even outside of Turkey.
