Millennial Fair – Sertab Erener

 

Introduction:

Sertab Erener is one of the most acclaimed Turkish performers of her time. As a soprano, her rich voice has intirueged and fascinated many fans.

Sertab was born in Instanbul and attented the Music Conservatory in the Turkish capital for six years. After she graduated, she started to perform as part of caberet group in famous clubs in Instanbul.

Her talented was quickly recognized by professionals, and by the year 1990 she already performed with the famous Turkish artist Sezen Aksu, who also helped her release her first album Sakin Ol. It was released in 1992, and with over a million copies sold it was the most successful Turkish debut album ever.

Wether she was singing pop music or classical opera pieces, Sertab received awards everywhere she went. Her versatile vocals and impressive life perfomances won her an army of devoted fans.

Sertab no longer had to worry about success in her own country, and thus she went for the international success. She sung duets with Jose Carreras and Ricky Martin, and also worked with famous producer Desmond Child, and David Palmer from Jethro Tull. Her second album Lal was used by Sony in the “Soundtracks For a Century” boxset, which featured 26 albums with the most influencial songs of the past 100 years, produced by Sony.

In February 2000, Sertab released her first European album called Sertab. It was immensely popular in the Benelux, where she gave numerous performances to many exited fans. She appeared at festivals such as Dranouter, Sfinks, Amsterdam Roots Festival and Live for Life.

Earlier this year, Sertab was chosen by the Turkish Radio and Television to represent Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest in Riga on May 24th. Sertab performed her first English solo song, “Every Way that I can”, and one first place! Her international career will take a leap forward into unknown teritories, as she plans new tours and perfomances for her many new fans around the world.
