Poet’s Pauper by Jason Branton]

Wide eyes of excitement catches your eye
A firecracker of passion and interest
Always the kind to wonder why
And ask questions of the world and things like this
She inquires about the poet’s ways
How his heart beats, and the game he plays
She follows him to the end of the earth
Perhaps to learn a lesson through her days

The poet sits her down and explains the world and love
How we all spin as one, why hearts fit with doves
And those wide eyes take it in, learning of sorrow and sin
And things she’s yearned to know all along
So dear student of mine, stay and ease your mind
Open your ears to this knowledgeable song
The things I tell you please keep hidden and safe
So one day you may pass it on
